Job Title: Match Support Specialist

Position Summary
The Match Support Specialist provides proactive, relationship-centered, and data-informed support to mentoring matches to promote child safety, strengthen developmental outcomes, and sustain long-term match relationships.

This role is designed to move beyond compliance monitoring toward an intentional model of wraparound engagement that supports youth, caregivers, and mentors as a connected support network. Match Support Specialists play a critical role in preventing premature match closures, reducing overall closure rates, and protecting the agency’s nationally recognized average match length of over four years.

Through coaching, early risk identification, resource navigation, and community connection, the Match Support Specialist strengthens match stability, enhances mentor and family experience, and contributes directly to youth success.
The Specialist manages an assigned caseload and is accountable for measurable outcomes including contact completion, retention indicators, referral engagement, survey compliance, satisfaction metrics, and match longevity.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Retention, Stability, and Closure Prevention

• Proactively monitor match relationship health to identify early signs of disengagement, stress, or risk.
• Implement early intervention and coaching strategies to strengthen match resilience.
• Develop stabilization approaches for matches experiencing challenges.
• Conduct structured exit interviews to understand closure drivers and identify opportunities for re-engagement or program improvement.
• Analyze closure patterns and contribute to organizational strategies that reduce preventable match terminations.
• Support the maintenance of an average match length exceeding four years.


Wraparound Support and Resource Navigation

• Identify youth and families who may benefit from additional support due to academic, social-emotional, environmental, or access-related barriers.
• Conduct exploratory and coaching conversations during match contacts to better understand underlying needs impacting match stability or youth outcomes.
• Provide intentional connections to internal programs including:

• Mentor engagement and support resources
• College and career readiness pathways
• Family support and enrichment services

• Share curated opportunities related to education, career exploration, youth enrichment, and family well-being.
• Utilize survey data and relationship assessments to guide coaching and resource recommendations.


Mentor Engagement, Value, and Community Building

• Ensure mentors feel supported, appreciated, and connected to the agency mission.
• Provide mentors with practical tools and resources to strengthen relationship-building activities, including activity ideas, digital communication resources, and event opportunities.
• Promote participation in community experiences such as Big Collective gatherings and match enrichment events.
• Identify opportunities to recognize and celebrate mentors and families.
• Coach mentors through relationship challenges using reflective listening, strengths-based guidance, and problem-solving support.
• Encourage long-term volunteer engagement, satisfaction, and rematch potential.


Match Support Management
• Manage an assigned caseload in alignment with agency service standards.
• Conduct monthly, quarterly, and post-18-month support contacts
• Complete 90-130 documented contacts and case notes monthly while maintaining at least a 90% contact completion rate.
• Maintain accurate and timely case documentation.
• Actively reduce backlog by staying on track with call completions


Survey, Data, and Outcome Monitoring
• Administer and track required outcome surveys including RPI, SOR, YOS/COS, and other agency tools.
• Achieve a minimum target of 65% for data collection and survey completion.
• Use outcome data to inform intervention, coaching, and retention strategies.
• Monitor trends related to match length, closure reasons, satisfaction, and engagement.


Engagement, Events, and Cross-Regional Collaboration•
• Support planning and attendance at in-person events (minimum one per month)
• Engage directly with participants at events to strengthen program connection and gather feedback.
• Collaborate across Orange County and Inland Empire teams to share best practices and improve service consistency.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on retention and youth outcomes.


Performance Metrics
• Consistently achieves full monthly contact completion rate

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or related field, or equivalent work experience required.
• 1–2 years of experience in youth services, case management, or related environment.
• Strong understanding of child development, family systems, and youth mentoring dynamics.
• Experience working with diverse or high-need populations preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish required.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems.

Job Summary

The Sports Buddies Program Coordinator leads a dynamic, group-based mentoring experience through weekend events that connect youth and mentors in fun, engaging settings. This role oversees the full participant lifecycle, including enrollment, program delivery, and match support, ensuring a high-quality and safe experience for all involved. The Coordinator is responsible for facilitating enrollment processes, planning and executing events and programming, and supporting match development. The ultimate goal is to inspire participants to transition into our traditional Community-Based Mentoring program by creating impactful experiences that build strong relationships and long-term commitment.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Participant Enrollment

Plan and facilitate interviews with youth, parents/guardians, and volunteers to assess fit, readiness, and alignment with program expectations
• Complete participant assessments based on interviews and application materials
Conduct reference checks and review program rules, expectations, and child safety guidelines with all participants
Coordinate enrollment tasks with Enrollment and Match team members

The Enrollment Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers, youth, and families as they move through the enrollment and assessment process at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and Inland Empire.
This role is responsible for conducting high-quality interviews and assessments to determine program readiness, ensure child safety standards are met, and inform strong, sustainable mentoring matches.
The Enrollment Specialist balances customer experience with thoughtful screening and documentation. By building trust, gathering meaningful information, and upholding program standards, this role plays a critical part in setting mentoring relationships up for long-term success.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Enrollment & Assessment

• Conduct comprehensive interviews with prospective volunteers, youth, and families.
• Assess program readiness, alignment, and potential fit.

The Program Strategy & Innovation Lead is responsible for supporting the implementation and delivery of a portfolio of mentoring initiatives, including recruitment, enrollment, matching, and match support to ensure high-quality relationships and positive outcomes for youth and volunteers. The role also contributes to the design, execution, and continuous improvement of emerging models and initiatives, such as Big Careers, group mentoring, and sports-based mentoring programs, working closely with the Director to strengthen program effectiveness, enhance operational systems, and promote alignment across programs to drive consistency, efficiency, and impact.

Program Delivery

• Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned mentoring initiatives, including recruitment, enrollment, matching, and ongoing match support

Job Summary

In partnership with the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) – ACCESS (Alternative, Community, Correctional, Education Schools & Services), the Alternative Education Mentor Specialist provides mentoring and support to youth who may be credit-deficient, at risk of not graduating, or experiencing personal and academic challenges. This role provides onsite small-group sessions and individualized engagement to strengthen student attendance, boost academic achievement, and promote collaborative skills that support productive citizenship. The Specialist is responsible for enrolling students, facilitating group sessions, and offering individualized guidance as students transition through alternative and continuation school settings, while collaborating with school and district leaders to support long-term student success.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruitment & Enrollment
• Present program benefits to school staff and students through engaging presentations and one-on-one conversations.
• Guide students into the program by clearly explaining expectations and helping them understand the level of commitment required.
• Conduct a thorough enrollment process to gather information about each student’s background, home environment, academic performance, and social networks.
• Collaborate with students to set personal goals for their mentoring experience and use these to shape Youth Outcome Development Plans (YODPs).
• Communicate regularly with school staff and BBBS leadership to share important updates and insights.
• Develop and maintain detailed student profiles in MatchForce to track progress, ensure continuity of support, and inform ongoing mentoring strategies.

Group & Individualized Case Management
• Design and lead group activities that introduce students to mentoring, encourage peer connection, and build teamwork skills.
• Facilitate small-group mentoring sessions that create space for shared dialogue, problem-solving, and skill development.
• Manage a cohort of students, providing consistent one-to-one support focused on setting goals, monitoring progress, and offering tailored support through Youth Outcome Development Plans (YODPs).
• Apply best practices in engagement by adapting activities and communication to accommodate diverse learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and motivational needs.
• Deliver educational materials, presentations, or other approved content developed collaboratively by BBBS and OCDE to enhance student learning and strengthen the mentoring experience.

Student Support & Engagement
• Build trust and belonging with students who may be credit-deficient, justice-involved, or experiencing instability at home through trauma-informed and restorative practices that promote consistency and resilience.
• Conduct goal-oriented check-ins aligned with students’ YODP goals, helping them build self-regulation, confidence, and positive decision-making skills while recognizing and reinforcing progress toward re-engagement and graduation.
• Promote a safe and supportive learning environment by modeling non-violent communication, guiding de-escalation, and teaching conflict resolution.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, probation officers, counselors, and families to address barriers to engagement and support transitions between alternative and traditional education settings.
• Connect students and families with school and community resources that address basic needs and promote long-term stability—especially for highly mobile, housing-insecure, or foster youth.

School & District Collaboration
• Serve as a liaison between BBBS, OCDE, and continuation schools to ensure program visibility and alignment with school priorities.
• Engage principals, teachers, counselors and OCDE representatives in regular meetings to share program impact, highlight student progress, and build stronger collaboration.
• Maintain a regular presence within the school buildings to support students directly & foster stronger relationships with school staff.
• Prepare and deliver presentations for academic administrators that showcase student outcomes, program successes, and alignment with district goals.
• Prepare reports highlighting student growth, mentoring outcomes, and key program performance indicators.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
• Keep accurate records of mentoring sessions, student progress, and outcomes in compliance with BBBS and OCDE standards.
• Use tracking tools to measure student growth in engagement, social-emotional development, and academic progress.
• Collect and analyze data to inform a white paper highlighting program outcomes, insights, and impact.
• Administer surveys and feedback tools to gather input from students, mentors, and school staff for continuous program improvement.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience working with youth, preferably in alternative education, continuation schools, juvenile justice, reentry education programs, mentoring, or social service
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate group sessions and conduct individualized case management.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic school-based environment.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
• Proficiency in Google Suite, MS Office, and case management/data entry systems (Salesforce/MatchForce experience a plus).

Preferred Qualifications
