Growing up away from extended family, Will found his own circle of support through his friends and their parents. Will attributes his success in life to these mentors who helped raise him; he also credits them as the inspiration behind his decision to help a child in his community as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Just four years ago, Andrew and I had our first outing. We went to play basketball and he took me to South Coast Plaza to buy a tie because the very next day, I had freshman orientation. It’s crazy to think that four years have gone by so fast. Andrew has been an absolutely amazing leader to me and he’s shown me what it means to be an amazing person—on the court and off the court.
As a quiet child, Zahir had always struggled to communicate with his parents and teachers. But it became much worse after his father died when Zahir was just seven years old. Zahir’s grades dropped, he became fearful of new experiences, and he started isolating himself from his family.
