[vc_row][vc_column][fwp-anim-text extra_class=””]During the summer months, child enrollment rates increase at Big Brothers Big Sisters, creating a significant need for additional mentors. Throughout the month of June, 14 matches participated in the Big Summer Challenge to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters and give Littles on the waitlist a summer they’ll never forget.

For the challenge, each team set out to raise $1,000 in order to recruit, match and support volunteers and children in the mentoring program.

Matthew and Jennifer Olson, Big Couple to Little Sister Abbie, led the campaign with a total of $4,040 raised. In addition to social media posts and reaching out to friends and family, Matthew and Jennifer also matched donations up to $2,500.

Rounding out the top three fundraisers, Big Sister Catherine and Little Sister Julianna raised $2,000 and Big Sister Laura and Little Sister Zuri raised $1,960. In total, all 14 of the teams collectively raised $13,500.

The top three fundraisers received Disneyland tickets. Participation prizes like SoulCycle and Ra Yoga certificates; EscapeX Rooms and LaserQuest gift cards; Legoland, Knott’s Berry Farm, South Coast Repertory and Pacific Symphony tickets and Red Robin and Hi-Times Wine Cellars packs were also awarded to matches.

Big Sister Laura explained on her donation page that the challenge is about more than receiving a prize. “It’s not about winning the competition, but raising money for an absolutely amazing cause.”
