Disneyland Resort Collaborates with Big Brothers Big Sisters to Mentor Local Students

This year, Disneyland Resort teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters as the organization’s newest corporate site in its Workplace Mentoring program.

Through the program, Resort cast members will volunteer as mentors to 22 sophomores from Savanna High School in Anaheim. Mentors and mentees will meet once a month at Disneyland Resort’s headquarters to complete the Big Brothers Big Sisters curriculum built upon three pillars of excellence: character, intellect and physical wellness.

“Education is the key to a bright future for these kids and our community. We are committed to strengthening opportunities for Anaheim’s youth and thrilled to be involved with this incredible workforce development program.” —Jill Bolton, Director of Corporate Citizenship at Disneyland Resort

Facilitated sessions led by the nonprofit will offer a well-rounded experience to participants by focusing on academic achievement and personal development. In addition to goal-setting, STEM activities and college prep, there will undoubtedly be some Disney magic. To start, students were invited to a special event at Disney California Adventure Park to celebrate the upcoming movie “Coco.”

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the Disneyland Resort and match our Littles to VoluntEARs,” said Melissa Beck, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and the Inland Empire. “For many of these students, this will be their only exposure to a real-world professional environment, so the Resort’s mentors will open their eyes to a world of future career options.”more.
