When his youngest son moved away for college, Tim Crosson decided to become a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“I had the time and wanted to do something fulfilling.”

As a recent empty nester, Tim realized he could devote his spare time to another young child in need of a role model. In April 2017, he was matched with a 12-year-old boy named Danny.

“It has been wonderful to be able to spend my weekends with Danny,“ Tim said. “He is such a funny and outgoing kid that we hit it off right away.”

Tim’s initial experience as a mentor in the program began more than 30 years ago, and resulted in a lifelong friendship. Since then, he’s remained actively involved with the organization as an advocate and board member.

For Danny, the value of having a Big Brother has been life-changing.

“I wanted a Big Brother so I could have a male role model in my life,” Danny said. “We have great conversations about what’s going on and he gives me different perspectives. It’s making me learn more about the world.”
